Benchmark Fire on Tonto National Forest
PHOENIX, October 16, 2017 — For Immediate Release. The Benchmark Fire was reported on Saturday afternoon, October 14, 2017, and is burning on Benchmark Mountain west of Forest Road 37. Smoke may be visible from I-17 and Black Canyon City. The fire is burning in a remote area of the forest with limited access, so it is being monitored from the air. - Nearest town is Black Canyon City, Arizona
Start Date: Saturday, October 14, 2017
Size: 120 acres
Percent Contained: 0%
Cause: undetermined
The Forest is still very dry, and everyone is asked to be diligent to prevent a wildfire. Even a small spark can start a fire. Please remember to completely extinguish your campfire before leaving, make sure tow chains are not dragging on the ground, your vehicle is in good working order, and avoid parking a hot engine over dry grass. You can help. One less spark could mean one less wildfire.
