Happy Friday, Happy New Year, Payson’s Booming Economy, Recipe to Try, Things to Do

This video expresses my excitement for a fabulous 2019!

Payson Economy

Business continued to boom in Payson as the year drew toward a close, according to the town’s November financial report.
The town’s local sales tax receipts jumped 27 percent to $4.2 million for the first five months of the fiscal year from July to November. A chunk of that increase stems from the increase in the town’s sales tax rate — which took effect in August of 2017.
“For the first five months of this fiscal year, sales tax revenue is both over budget to date and above prior year-to-date revenue,” noted chief fiscal officer Deborah Barber.

Snow Day Masala Chai

INGREDIENTS
1 1½-inch piece fresh ginger, unpeeled, coarsely grated
1 3-inch cinnamon stick, lightly crushed with the flat side of a knife
6 teaspoons loose strong black tea or 6 tea bags
14 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed, or ¾ teaspoon cardamom seeds, lightly crushed
2¾ cups milk
¼ cup pure maple syrup

RECIPE PREPARATION

Bring ginger, cinnamon, and 3½ cups water to a boil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Lower heat and simmer rapidly, stirring occasionally, until liquid is reduced by a third and very fragrant, about 20 minutes.
Remove pan from heat, stir in tea and cardamom, and let steep 2 minutes.
Return pan to medium-high heat and stir in milk and maple syrup. Cook, stirring occasionally and keeping a close watch, until mixture begins to foam up and boil, about 5 minutes. Immediately remove from heat and let sit 5 minutes. Strain chai through a fine-mesh sieve into a teapot or pitcher and serve.

“Vocal Trash” is the sixth concert in the Tonto Community Concert Association’s 2018-2019 Season. Best described as “entertainment with a conscience,” Vocal Trash is an urban-themed, Broadway style production. The 7-member troupe rescues items from landfills to create toolbox guitars, a milk-urn bass and numerous re-purposed industrial percussion props. Their singing, break dancing, and comedy leave audiences not only entertained, but inspired. For tickets or information call 928-472-2423 or 303-903-2895 or go to www.tccarim.org. There is also a student outreach concert at the Payson High School Auditorium at 1:00 PM the same day.
